Equipment Placement

Studio Equipment Positioning Guide — All Rooms

Type C — Construction Guide · Positions derived from SSOT room dimensions · Acoustically critical placements marked [AC]

Overview

This guide defines the exact placement of all studio equipment within each room. Positions are calculated from SSOT room dimensions to ensure correct acoustic geometry (monitor angles, listening position), ergonomic reach distances, and cable routing. All equipment placement occurs after Phase 10 (Acoustic Treatment) is complete and commissioning tests have passed.

Prerequisites: All 10 construction phases complete. NC targets met. RT60 verified. Acoustic panels and bass traps installed. Custom desk fabricated and delivered (see DESK-FABRICATION.html).

Control Room (B311) — 5.43 m², NC-18

Room B311 — Audio Control

Monitor Placement [AC]

EquipmentPositionHeightNotes
Genelec 8030C (Left)−30° from center axis, 1.0 m from listening position120 cm AFFOn IsoAcoustics ISO-155 stand [AC]
Genelec 8030C (Right)+30° from center axis, 1.0 m from listening position120 cm AFFOn IsoAcoustics ISO-155 stand [AC]
Listening position: 1.54 m from front wall (68% of 2.25 m room depth). This places the engineer at the optimal point where room modes are least reinforced. [AC]

Rack & Under-Desk Equipment

Monitor geometry: The ±30° stereo angle and 1.0 m throw distance form an equilateral triangle with the listening position. Verify with a tape measure and protractor before final positioning. [HP]
Do NOT: Place monitors directly against the wall — maintain at least 20 cm rear clearance for port breathing. Do NOT skip the IsoAcoustics stands — they decouple monitor vibration from the desk/shelf surface.

VO Live (B304) — 5.31 m², NC-12

Room B304 — Voice-Over & Dubbing

Boom Arms

3× Rode PSA1+ studio boom arms, desk-clamped. These provide full 360° rotation and 820 mm horizontal reach, sufficient to position microphones at the center of the room from desk-edge mounting points.

Talent Monitoring & Video

LG 22″ dubbing monitor (#2)Wall-mounted, secondary positionHDMI-over-Cat6 extender from Control Room
Signal path: Video feeds originate from the Control Room Mac/workstation. HDMI-over-Cat6 extenders carry the signal through the wall (sealed penetration) to the VO Live monitors. No active electronics (fans, PSUs) should be placed inside VO Live to protect the NC-12 target.
Do NOT: Place any fan-cooled equipment inside VO Live. Do NOT route power supplies inside the room — use wall-wart PSUs outside and run low-voltage DC through sealed penetrations. The NC-12 target has zero margin for equipment noise.

Video Studio (B312-1) — 11.23 m², NC-18

Green screen lighting: The green screen must be lit separately from talent. Uneven green screen lighting causes chroma key artifacts. Maintain at least 1.5 m distance between talent and green screen to avoid green spill on skin.
Do NOT: Place cameras closer than 2 m to talent for wide shots — barrel distortion becomes visible. Do NOT use the same lighting for talent and green screen. Do NOT block the green screen retraction path with equipment.

Cable Routing Notes

Inter-Room Cabling

General Rules

  • Power and data cables maintain 300 mm minimum separation at all times
  • All wall penetrations sealed with fire-rated acoustic sealant [AC]
  • Thunderbolt 3 cables (Apollo x4): maximum 2 m run length
  • HDMI-over-Cat6 extenders for Control → VO Live video feeds
  • Cat6A S/FTP for all data runs, TIA-568B termination
  • Dante network (Apollo ecosystem): dedicated VLAN on studio network switch

Cable Tray & Management

  • Full-width cable tray under rear edge of Control Room desk
  • Rubber grommets at all desk cable pass-through points
  • Label all cables at both ends with room code and circuit designation
  • Velcro ties (not zip ties) for all cable bundles — allows future changes

QC Checklist

Equipment Placement Verification

Control Room

  • Listening position at 1.54 m from front wall (verified with tape measure) [AC]
  • Monitors at ±30° forming equilateral triangle with listening position [AC]
  • Monitor tweeters at 120 cm AFF (ear height when seated) [AC]
  • IsoAcoustics ISO-155 stands installed under both monitors
  • SSL UF8 centered on desk, UF1 to right
  • Apollo x4 Thunderbolt cable under 2 m

VO Live

  • No fan-cooled equipment inside the room [AC]
  • Microphone at room center, boom arm stable
  • Headphone amp accessible to talent without leaving mic position
  • HDMI-over-Cat6 video feeds operational
