Hardware Schedule

Door Hardware Schedule for All 4 Acoustic Doors (D1–D4)

Type C — Construction Guide · 4 doors · STC 45–50 · All seals acoustically critical [AC]

Overview

This schedule defines the complete hardware specification for each of the four acoustic doors in the MediaVerse studio complex. All hardware selections are driven by STC requirements and operational needs.

D1 — Entry Door

Door D1 — STC 50

Exterior Entry Door

D1 is the primary entry from the building corridor into the studio complex. As an exterior-facing acoustic door, it requires additional weather protection beyond standard acoustic seals. [AC]

Specification

ParameterValue
STC ratingSTC 50
Leaf size90 × 220 cm
Frame16 ga steel, welded corners, grout-filled
Hinges4× heavy-duty ball-bearing (120 kg rated each)
Perimeter sealMagnetic strip + compression neoprene gasket [AC]
ThresholdAuto drop seal + weather strip gasket [AC]
LockLever handle + mortise lock (keyed entry)
CloserConcealed overhead, adjustable closing speed

Additional Weather Protection

  • Weather stripping: Continuous weather strip on all four edges (in addition to acoustic seals) [AC]
  • Rain deflector: Aluminium drip bar at door head to prevent water ingress into seal channel
  • Threshold gasket: Rubber threshold gasket below drop seal for secondary weather barrier
4 hinges required: D1 is the heaviest door in the complex and is the most frequently operated. Four hinges distribute the weight and reduce long-term hinge sag that would compromise seal contact.
Closer adjustment: Set closing speed to 3–5 seconds from 90° to latch. Faster closing can damage seals; slower closing leaves the door ajar during high-traffic periods. [HP]

D2 — Control Room Door

Door D2 — STC 45

Buffer Spine to Control Room

D2 connects the buffer spine corridor to the Control Room B311. It swings west into the Control Room. [AC]

Specification

ParameterValue
STC ratingSTC 45
Leaf size90 × 220 cm
Frame18 ga steel, welded corners, grout-filled
Hinges3× heavy-duty ball-bearing (100 kg rated each)
Perimeter sealNeoprene compression gasket (D-profile, continuous) [AC]
ThresholdAuto drop seal [AC]
LockLever handle + passage set (no key)
CloserSurface mounted, adjustable

Operational Notes

  • Magnetic hold-open: Electromagnetic hold-open device for non-recording use — releases on fire alarm or manual button press
  • Swing direction: West into Control Room — does not obstruct buffer spine corridor when open
Hold-open protocol: The magnetic hold-open must be released (door closed) during ALL recording sessions. An open acoustic door provides zero isolation regardless of wall STC. [AC]

D3 — VO Live Door

Door D3 — STC 45

Buffer Spine to VO Live Booth

D3 is the smallest door in the complex at 80 cm width. It connects the buffer spine to the VO Live booth B304. Swings north into the VO booth. This door has the tightest seal requirements in the complex because VO Live targets NC-12. [AC]

Specification

ParameterValue
STC ratingSTC 45
Leaf size80 × 220 cm
Frame18 ga steel, welded corners, grout-filled
Hinges3× heavy-duty ball-bearing (100 kg rated each)
Perimeter sealNeoprene compression gasket (D-profile, continuous) [AC]
ThresholdAuto drop seal [AC]
LockLever handle + passage set (no key)
CloserSurface mounted, adjustable

NC-12 Seal Requirements

  • Zero tolerance on gaps: VO Live targets NC-12, which means ANY seal gap is audible in recordings [AC]
  • Drop seal verification: Must contact threshold across full 80 cm width with zero daylight [HP]
  • Compression gasket: Verify positive compression on head and both jambs with feeler gauge (no 0.5 mm gap acceptable) [HP]
Do NOT: Accept D3 installation if ANY gap is detectable around the perimeter. NC-12 is the most demanding noise criterion in the complex — a 1 mm seal gap raises the noise floor above the target. [AC]

D4 — Video Studio Door

Door D4 — STC 48

Buffer Spine to Video Studio

D4 serves the Video Studio B312-1. It is upgraded to STC 48 to match Wall 7 performance and includes Green Glue constrained layer damping in the leaf construction. [AC]

Specification

ParameterValue
STC ratingSTC 48
Leaf size90 × 220 cm
Frame16 ga steel, welded corners, grout-filled
Hinges3× heavy-duty ball-bearing (100 kg rated each)
Perimeter sealMagnetic strip + compression double seal [AC]
ThresholdAuto drop seal [AC]
LockLever handle + passage set (no key)
CloserConcealed overhead, adjustable

Green Glue CLD Construction

  • Application: Green Glue applied between the MDF stiffener layers inside the door leaf [AC]
  • Coverage: 2 tubes (828 mL each) per m² of MDF surface
  • Cure time: 30 days to full damping performance
  • Purpose: Converts vibrational energy to heat through constrained layer damping, adding 2–3 STC points over the base STC 45 construction
Wall 7 match: D4 is set into Wall 7 (STC 48). The door must match or exceed the wall STC to avoid creating a weak point in the partition. A lower-rated door would become the dominant flanking path. [AC]
Concealed closer: D4 uses a concealed overhead closer (not surface-mounted) for cleaner aesthetics on the studio side. Verify closer is rated for the door weight (~65 kg). [HP]

Maintenance Schedule

Ongoing

Preventive Maintenance for All Acoustic Doors

FrequencyTaskAcceptance Criteria
Annual Inspect all seals for compression set, cracking, or gaps No light visible around any edge when door is closed. Replace seals if light is visible. [HP]
Annual Verify drop seal contact with threshold Full-width contact with threshold plate. Adjust mechanism if gap exists. [HP]
Bi-annual Lubricate hinges; check closer speed Closer speed: 3–5 seconds from 90° to latch. No hinge binding or squeaking.
As needed Check magnetic seal pull force (D1 and D4 only) Minimum pull force: >2 kg/m of seal length. [AC]
Warning: Propping acoustic doors open during recording sessions destroys all isolation. The STC rating of any door drops to effectively STC 0 when held open. Use the magnetic hold-open device on D2 only during non-recording periods. [AC]
Seal replacement schedule: Neoprene compression gaskets should be replaced every 3–5 years, or immediately if annual inspection reveals compression set or visible gaps. Magnetic seal strips have a longer service life (7–10 years) but should be checked for demagnetization.
